Annie Ellis
Meet Annie, a patient advocate on MATCHMAKERS
Annie Ellis was diagnosed in 2004 with high grade serous ovarian cancer and is currently enjoying an unexpected long third remission (17+ years) after two recurrences, five lines of treatment, three debulking surgeries (the last was a partial liver resection) and a phase I remission vaccine clinical trial.
She was diagnosed with stage 1 IDC breast cancer in 2010. Annie has strong ties to the ovarian cancer survivor community and attends medical and scientific conferences. Staying connected and informed with research that is constantly evolving enables her to provide peer support and share the hope of novel therapies with people managing recurrent disease as well as dispel myths about clinical trials. She has been able to contribute to science by providing the patient perspective at national and international meetings, the development of guidelines, quantifying the patient perspective through surveys and focus groups, and exploring ways to improve shared decision-making.
Annie brings her lived experience and the collective perspective of the survivor community into research dialogues as new technologies and discoveries unravel the complexities of cancers in the pursuit of safe and more effective treatment options that will help us live longer and better.
